Zip_______________________ Your email:__________________________ The American Kennel Club does not recognize Designer Dogs. The designer dog, given this name because it is as if several breeds were bred by design. In all actuality most of the designer dogs could be labeled mistakes as someone let a female in heat out in a yard and a very unneutered male heard the scent and the outcome was what is now known as a designer dog. Some of the offspring were so outstandingly good looking and had the best personality of the two breeds that were originally mismatched that breeders decided to marry dogs and see what they could get. These designer dogs are very popular and are now as expensive as a purebred and the beauty of it is that inbreeding had caused not only physical defects but also personality defects that designer dogs don’t have. I am sure you have seen photos of movie stars and people in the news holding some of these designer dogs in their arms such as a maltipoo (maltese and poodle), chiweenie (Chihuahua and dachshund), pekepoo (Pekinese and poodle), pomapoo (Pomeranian and poodle) poochon (poodle and bichon frise) for examples. These designer dogs are now just about in every pet shop and pound across the country. These designer dogs carry or are assumed to carry the best qualities of the breed of dog that they were bred from. The mixtures are fun and exciting to see and many have outstanding personalities that purebred dogs lack. There are some really unusual designer dogs such as the Saint Berdoodle, the Schnoodle, the Scoodle and the Puggle. If you haven’t already guessed what designer dogs these are, they are the Saint Bernard and the Standard Poodle, the Schnauzer and the Poodle, the Scottish terrier and the Poodle and the Pug and the Beagle. These are great combinations and are becoming more and more popular with the dog loving public who aren’t necessarily of the opinion that a dog must be pure and registered with the AKC. Just as formalities in life have given way to casual life style, the breed of a dog doesn’t really matter anymore if you love dogs and are looking for a loving pet. The breed of a dog does count when it comes to the loyalty and nature of your canine companion. Designer dogs fit the bill. There must be over one thousand listed in the designer dog category. Purebred dogs are outnumbered and may someday just be a memory. One could say dogs have become multi-racial as have people and this is a good thing. In the following pages designer dogs and photos will be discussed for information. A free monthly Newsletter featuring information about designer dogs will be sent to your email address.
